Happy Birthday, Mom!

Stamps: Penny Black 'Lace Flower Trio', Hero Arts decorative square and sentiments. Ink: Kiwi Kiss. Carstock: Kiwi Kiss Pattern Designer Series Paper, Very Vanilla. Accessories: Nestabilities Labels One, vanilla grosgrain, Flower Soft, slot punch.

With Mom's birthday and Mother's Day both in May, it can be a little challenging to come up with two sets of special gifts so close together. Two lucky finds worked in my favor this year -- the first was unearthing this set of cards while relocating my craft area and the second was stumbling across the 'It's in the Bag' challenge over on PaperCrafts Planet.

This set of cards was created on a whim back when I was brand new to stamping. My stamping style has changed so much in the past 2 1/2 years that usually early projects are no longer that appealing. I think the reason these cards are still look good to me is that they are follow the 'Clean and Simple' theory of stamping:

Stamps: Hero Arts sentiments and decorative square. Ink: Old Olive. Cardstock: vanilla card bases and envelopes. Accessories: textured stickers, unknown manufacturer.

The Double-Pocket bag (tutorial HERE) is the perfect size to tuck four cards and envelopes in each side. It has a pleated bottom, so it stands alone:

Be sure to check out the challenge on PaperCraft Planet; the 3D Tuesday challenge gals posted a beautiful set of example bags. I would have loved to try the cute little bag templates that were created by Kelleigh Ratzlaff at Digichick used in the examples, but May is my spending freeze month (I try to have a spending moratorium at least once a year to force myself to use my in-house overflowing supplies).

Now I'm off to try the folder card technique featured on the Roses on Paper Challenge blog -- it's a Scor-pal kind of week!

  3. Hi Jess :) What a beautiful gift for mom!! My MIL's b-day is next week as well, and I still haven't thought of what to make/give! EEKS. This set of cards looks so elegant and I agree--clean and simple is really nice! (something I'm not very good at) - the colored piece is stamped??? WHOA..they look so professional!! (Not that that surprises me--you are so talented...even on your 2 1/2 yr. old stuff!) GOOD FIND. LOVE the bag too. I think my MIL would love something like this--I don't know if I'll have time to make it though. Maybe you can make mine for me?! LOL
